Safety Issue # Recommendations Proposed Corrective Actions
1 2023-0253 Wayfinding and Signage did not meet Accessibility Regulations Y1 Obtain new tactile signage decals for accessible seating in the ATB and pre-board screening rooms.
Install tactile signs with raised print, raised symbols or braille within the facility.
Y1 Obtain new washroom signage (ATB and pre-board) that also has braille near the bottom edge . Install new signage with it's center at a height of 125cm to 175cm from the floor that is accessible to everyone.
2 2023-0252 Terminal Seating Areas do not meet Accessibility Regulations:

Y1 Add 1 additional accessible seating in the general terminal area, and the pre-board screening room. These are to be side by side (2) Ensure these comply with Table 3.2.2.2.3 in the Barrier Free Design Building Code NB Reg 2021-3. The seating space is to be clear, level and have removable seats.
Y1 Ensure designated wheelchair spaces are not less than 122cm long where a a wheel chair enters from the front or rear of the space. Ensure these spaces are not less than90cm wide 152.5cm to permit a wheelchair to enterfrom a side approach.
Y2 Provide 2 or more designated accessible seating spaces located side by side.
Y2 Provide a variety of seating in the boardroom and and screening area.
Y1 Provide an unobstructed accessible path of travel of at least 92cm wide in the seating area. Measured during evaluation preboard-: 80-92 cm
Y2 no power outlets to allow charging of batteries for electric mobility aids between 45.5cm and 55cm from the floor.
Y1 install tactile direction surface indicators along the paths of travel.
Y3 Provide a safe, locked space to store personal equipment for when a person must transfer from their own wheelchair.
3 2023-0250 Terminal Accessible stalls did not meet Accessible Regulations
Y1 Reposition interior pull handles so they are located 20cm to 30cm from the hinge edge of the stall door. Color contrast the rear grab bars from the wall.
UD Obtain new toilets and install at proper height, lower all handles as per regulations, paint back walls in both bathrooms so that grabbars are contrasted.Install toilet seats that are located 43cm to 46cm high.
Y1 Replace toilet paper dispensers with ones that are made of an open design. Also raise them to be located 60cm to 80cm from the floor
Y1 Install signage on the Accessible stall door that complies with Section 8.0 of the Accessibility Tool.

4 2023-0234 Airport Vehicle Parking Lots do not meet Accessible Regulations Y1 During preventative maintenance line painting- ensure an additional accessible parking spot is added to the long term parking lot and short-term parking. Ensure these comply with Table 3.8.2.5 in the Barrier Free Design Code NB Reg 2021-3.
Y3 * Install tactile walking surface indicators around the perimeter of the designated parking spaces.
Y1 Provide a passenger pick-up/drop off zone ajacent to and parallel to the vehicle pull up space . Ensure it is 150cm wide 700cm long. Locate this within 5000cm of the accessible entrance and are easy to locate from the main route.
5 2023-0235 Route from Parking to Entrance does not meet Accessiblity Regulations: Y3 Add tactile walking surface indicators (TWSI) to indicate the path of travel to the accessible entrance.*Add tactile walking surface indicators for the crosswalk.
Y3 *Where possible, provide vibro-tactile signal buttons for the crosswalk.
Y3 * Where possible, provide acoustic locator signals for the crosswalk.

7 2023-0239 Entrances of the ATB does not meet Accessible Regulations :

Y1 Use the International Symbol of Access to identify the location of the accessible entrances.
Y3 Lower the thresholds to no more than 1.3cm high.
Y1 Provide a visible directory for the building that complies with Section 8.0 of the Accessibility Tool.
Y1 Color contrast the entrance from the surrounding walls or surfaces
Y1 Identify the entrance with tactile indicators, such as cane detectors or surface changes.
8 2023-0248 Interior Features of the ATB do not meet Accessibility Regulatons:

Y3 Provide a safe , locked space that is available to store personal equipment (wheelchairs, walkers) while using facility equipment.
Y1 Store the transport wheel chairs in an identifiable location that is easily found.
Y2 install tactile indicators for interior doors.
Y2 install a continuous opeque strip that is color contrasted with the door, is at least 5cm high, extends the full width of the door and is located between 135cm to 150cm from the floor.
Y1 Provide at least 30cm of clear space from the latch on push side of interior doors.
Y 1 Install clear wayfinding signage to all areas of high importance that comply with Section 8.0 of the Accessibility Tool.
Y2 All interior doors must be identified with tactile indicators such as cane detactors or surface changes.

Y2 Add a lowered section to service counters no higher than 86.5cm from the floor.

9 2023-0249 Interior Features of the terminal building do not meet accessibility regulations.

UD Obtain a new water fountain with knee clearance of at least a 75cm wide, 43cm deep, and 68cm in height. Ensure the new unit is a cantilevered station, is cane detectable or recessed with a toe space of at least 80cm wide, 23cm deep, and 23 cm high.
Y1 Color contrast the wall and the water fountain/bottle filling station from wall.
Y1 Provide sensory friendly sunglasses for areas lit with fluorescent lighting.
Y1 Provide a sensory friendly environment that has limited background noise.
Y3 Install ceiling or floor materials that will buffer sound so it is not unduly amplified.
Y1 Ensure all rooms and paths of travel are illuminated without exceeding 500 Lux (except where there is natural light).
Y1 Provide sensory friendly ear protection where noise levels are high.
Y1 Can we have an accessibility kit, kept at the Sec./Ops counter with sensory glasses, and hearing protection available to travelling public. Need to follow-up with Wendy and find out about this?
Y3 Add a lowered section to service counters no higher than 86.5cm form floor and at least 76cm long.

11 Universal Washrooms do not meet Accessibility Regulations Y3 Provide sinks with a clearance not less than 76cm wide.
Y1 Provide a grab bar with a diameter between 3cm and 4cm
Mount the grab bar with a space between 3.5cm and 4.5cm between the wall and the bar.
Provide at least 90cm of clear space on onme side of the toilet.
Ensure the grab bar is slip-resistant
Y1 Lower the soap dispenser to no higher than 110cm above the floor.
Y2 Install tactile walking surface indicators in the universal washroom.
Y1 Mount the mirror in a fixed, inclined position. Lower the mirror with its' bottom edge not more than 100cm from the floor.
UD Install an adult change table in the universal washroom that is at least 76cm by 183cm long.
UD Ensure adult change table has a surface height above the floor that can be adjusted from between 45cm and 50cm at the low range and to between 85cm and 90cm at the high range.
The adult change table should have surfaces free of sharp edges, corners, or abrasive materials.
UD The adult change table should be easy to clean.
UD Provide an adult change table that is designed to support a weight of at least 250kg (551lb).
UD Ensure the adult change table has controls no higher than 120cm.

13 2024-0007 The NNBAA's Emergency/Evacuation Plan did not meet Accessible Regulations Y1 Post an evacuation plan for the building.
2a - Mount the evacuation plan with the horizontal centerline 150cm from the floor.
2b - Provide the plan in alternative formats (e.g. print, digital).
2c - Ensure the plan is on signage that complies with Section 8.0 of the Accessibility Tool.
Y1 2d - Post an evacuation plan in every room.
Y1 6 - Install signage on emergency exit doors that complies with Section 8.0 of the Accessibility Tool.
Y1 7b - Clearly identify emergency hallways or corridors as accessible evacuation routes on the evacuation plan.
Y2 7c - Equip emergency hallways with wayfinding signage to identify them.
Y3 11 - Add an emergency call system to accessible washrooms.
Y3 12 - Ensure accessible washroom doors can be unlocked from the outside in an emergency situation.
Y1 13 - Mount fire extinguishers at no more than 120cm from the floor.
